| Artist Bio | Yang Shoujing, a renowned calligrapher and geographer in the late Qing dynasty, is known as Xingwu (courtesy name) and Lin-su (pseudonyms). Yang was born in Hubei, China and served as an officer of the Chinese embassy in Japan in 1880. After returning to China in 1884, Yang devoted himself to calligraphy education and initiated a culture exchange of calligraphy between China and Japan. Yang specialized in all types of calligraphy. Several Japanese students had followed him to China to learn calligraphy. Yang’s contribution to geographic research is also very significant. Several books regarding China’s geography have been published. One of the most valuable publications is “Shuijingzhu shu”, which takes Yang several decades to finish. |
| 作者生平 | 楊守敬,字惺吾,號鄰蘇。湖北宜都人。清末歷史地理學家、書法家。於1880年曾為駐日隨官,蒐集從中國流出的唐宋古籍。善於書法,楷行隸草篆皆有研究,回國後,鼓勵中日書法交流學習,門下有不少日本學生。除此之外,楊守敬的地理學成就最受矚目,曾出版不少地理考證書籍,代表作為歷經數十年研究的「水經注疏」 。 |
