October 24, 1937. Colonia, Uruguay: This town is situated on the Plata River directly across from Buenos Aires and obtains part of its importance as the terminus for a ferry service across the broad river. Uruguay has built an excellent paved road which connects Colonia and Montevideo. Residents of Buenos Aires making a holiday jaunt to Montevideo usually cross the Plata to Colonia, frequently with their cars, then drive by road to the capital city. This route is the more important because the Argentine possesses few motor roads and automobile tours out of Buenos Aires can be made in only one direction. 1800 feet.
