November 29, 1937. Lourenco Marques, Mozambique: The Polana Hotel. This fine structure faces the Atlantic Ocean and stands on a bluff about 150 feet above the water. The service and food are excellent, for it is one of the vacation spots for Johannesburgers and other Transvaal residents. Just behind the hotel stands the wireless tower for communication with vessels of the air and sea. At the far right is the present airdrome and a new twin-engine Junkers passenger plane is waiting there for the mail, which soon will arrive on an Imperial Airways flying boat from England. This plane, which will carry the load to Johannesburg, was said to be the fastest commercial airplane built and cruises at 210 miles an hour. c. 100 feet. 08:55.
