December 5, 1937. Zambesi River at Chirundi: This is the site of the new Beit Bridge (donation from estate of Alfred Beit, 1853-1906), which will afford a crossing of the river on the road from Lusaka to Salisbury. The observer is looking upstream and on the right bank of the river is the construction camp. The road from Salisbury comes in at the left. No progress on the actual placement of the bridge can be made out. Materials are being brought by truck about a hundred miles from Kafue, the nearest railroad stop. (Bridge opened in May, 1939). 7900 feet. 06:49.
