November 23, 1937. Capetown: The Rhodes Memorial and estate. This stands on the eastern flank of Table Mountain somewhat removed from the city, a glimpse of which is seen in the upper righthand corner. The Doric temple houses a bust of Rhodes, beneath which is inscribed Kipling's epitaph: His immense and brooding spirit still Shall quicken and control. Living he was the land, and dead, His soul shall be her soul. A series of terraces leads down to a bronze coursement called 'Energy', symbolic of Rhodes's rugged character. Bronze lions, sculptured by Swan, flank the steps that lead from terrace to terrace. C. 1100 feet. 10:32.
