December 7, 1937. Mlanje Mountains, Nyasaland: A matched view showing the whole southern face of the mountains. The picture was taken from an elevation a mile and a half above the highest peak. The smaller detached mountain at the right lies in Portugese territory. The deep valley in the center of the main mass is the Lujiri-Ruo drainage where lies the Lyon tea estate seen in later pictures. At the extreme left is the Lichenya Plateau and facing outward to the left is the 'crater.' I think Lake Chilwa is visible at the upper right. 16,700 feet. 06:44.
