December 8, 1937. Kota-Kota, Nyasaland: The town, which is the headquarters of the district, was the 'emporium of the Arab slave trade at the time when it was visited by Livingstone in 1863.' The sultan here was the representative of the Sultan of Zanzibar. Every two weeks a boat calls here and there is connection by road to the great north road which passes through the highlands above.
