In the foreground is a single-runway airport 700 yards long. This settlement is the headquarters of the Livingstonia Mission, of the Church of Scotland. The Mission's work began in 1875, three years after the death of Livingstone, and this site was chosen in 1894. Under its supervision four other missions in Nyasaland and four in Rhodesia are being operated. This station contains a normal school for training of teachers with courses in theology and medicine. Apprentices are trained in agriculture, building, carpentry, and engineering. The water supply has been brought to the station from the hills behind, and there is an electrical installation supplying power to the workshop and light to the buildings. The David Gordon Memorial Hospital is is said to be well equipped, even including x-ray. The whole Livingstonia Mission system includes 34 congregations with about 50,000 members (1929). 8300 feet. 09:16.
