January 8, 1938. Kitale airport, Kenya: On January 8, 1938, an air rally was held at Kitale airport to promote interest in flying and to raise money with which to maintain the field during the coming year. Three R.A.F. bombers (at the lower right) came for formation flying, and about ten or twelve private ships also took part. A line of stalls was erected at the left where lunches and cold drinks were served. Throngs of natives (right side of airport) came in to watch the celebration. They were dressed in their own distinctive costumes. The governor of the colony was present as well as numerous other officials. Low oblique. 15:15.
