Photographer's Note	January 16, 1938. 50 miles east of Shinyanga, Tanganyika: The erosion patterns can be well seen on this hillside and the recent effort to prevent further soil destruction by means of contour ditching. This is one of the outlying projects of the government under the supervision of the younger Gilman who flew with us while these pictures were being made. Note tree plantings beyond. c. 5500 feet.
