January 16, 1938. 10 miles northwest of Shinyanga, Tanganyika: Tsetse fly control belt. The bush in the foreground of the picture has been cleared out from a strip which extends far in the distance. Tsetse fly (the tsetse fly of dry country affecting cattle and not man) lives in the bush and the very act of clearing it reduces it or eliminates the menace. This clearing is only temporary, however, because if not kept up the bush will return and so will the fly. c. 6000 feet.
