November 23, 1937. Kimberley: The Wesselton Mine, discovered in 1890. In the lower left corner is a white-roofed enclosure which houses the natives that do the labor of mining. There are several of these compounds on the property, but this is the one which we visited. The natives are not allowed to leave the compounds at any time during their four-month contract, but must be self-maintaining within the limits of this building. Shower baths are provided and a small swimming pool is under construction. Movies are shown once a week and church services are held. 6000 feet. 17:45.
