During World War II when he was a Foreign Correspondent based in Chungking [Chongqing], China's wartime capital, Mr. Forman was the first American newsman to reach the northern areas controlled by the Chinese Communists. His book, Report from Red China, recounting his many talks with Mao Tse-tung [Mao Zedong] and other Red Leaders, and his months of travel with the Red Army in combat operations against the Japanese, Best Seller List; and was translated into fifteen languages, including Chinese. It has since become something of a classic, and was recently republished - 30 years later!
