Crude stick lac which has been broken off of the twigs of the host trees is being dried before shipping to Bangkok. Chomtong [Chom tong], southwest corner of the Chiangmai Valley. Lac is red pigment from the resinous secretion of a variety of insects found in southern Asia. The resin is secreted on tree branches, is harvested, dried, and then used to make red dye.
