Changdokkung (Changdok palace) was built as a secondary palace after Gyeongbok-kung palace which had been established in 1395 as a primary palace. Construction of Changdokkung began in 1405, and completed in 1412. It was burned down during the Jananese Invasion in 1592, and rebuilt in 1609 by the king Sonjo and king Kwanghae Kun. In 1997, Changdokkung was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
