Photographer's Note	This rice planting was photographed in Yangkai valley under a heavy overcast sky. Transplanting of the rice shoots was done by the women of the village. The rice shoots were grown from seed in areas near the homes and then brought to the fields for transplanting. In the planting process ground was first plowed by 'hoe power' or with a primitive plow pulled by a water buffalo. The area was then flooded by introducing water from a higher level, then rake-like equipment was used to still further breakdown the soil into a slurry for easy planting.
