Photographer's Note
The
bridge
across
the
river
led
to the
town
of
Luliang
.
Across
the
river
is
a
minor
gateway
just
outside
the
city
walls
.
It
was
probably
important
at
one
time
. The
bridge
was
quite
rickety
-
not
being
the
most
stable
structure
in the
world
.
However
, the
Chinese
moved
many
people
,
ox
carts
,
loaded
pony
caravans
, etc.
across
it
without
any
known
disasters
. The
gateway
was of
substantial
construction
and
very
colorful
. The
red
brick
contrasted
with the
green-gray
roof
tiles
.
Gold
leaf
was
used
in the
roof
trim
.
Dragon
like
designs
and a
spire
of
gold
leaf
capped
the
roof
top
.
River
sampans
often
were
moored
at the
bridge
.
Note
the
variety
of
dress
on the
people
crossing
. The
river
at this
time
was
above
normal
level
.
