Photographer's Note	The bridge across the river led to the town of Luliang. Across the river is a minor gateway just outside the city walls. It was probably important at one time. The bridge was quite rickety - not being the most stable structure in the world. However, the Chinese moved many people, ox carts, loaded pony caravans, etc. across it without any known disasters. The gateway was of substantial construction and very colorful. The red brick contrasted with the green-gray roof tiles. Gold leaf was used in the roof trim. Dragon like designs and a spire of gold leaf capped the roof top. River sampans often were moored at the bridge. Note the variety of dress on the people crossing. The river at this time was above normal level.
