Photographer's Note	People from the surrounding area would bring produce and merchandise to sell. The market was anywhere. In this case they set down in a street in Yankai village, using their carrying baskets to display their wares. In this instance, it was all produce they were selling. The basket in the rear center has two handles for carrying on one's shoulders. The arms would be slipped through the loops, thus fitting the front of the basket snugly against the carrier's upper back. The men in the center are probably haggling price. The buildings in the background are made of wood and mud brick… the roofs are thatched with rice stalks. They seem much like shops with their counters and open display areas. Note the varied dress of people.
