Home to the Normal College of the American Gymnastic Union (Turnlehrer Seminar). This was a school of the North American Turnerbund. The organization (Turnverein) founded by German immigrants stressed physical fitness as well as intellectual and cultural values. In 1907 the Normal College moved to Indianapolis and later became Indiana University School of Physical Education.
