Kaiyun Wang, known as Renqiu or Renfu (courtesy names) and Xiangqi (pseudonym), was born in Changsha, China. Wang was a renowned classics researcher, historian, and scholar of Chinese literature. Wang served as a policy adviser to Guofan Zeng (an eminent official and scholar in the late Qing dynasty) and later devoted himself to teaching. He specialized in the study of Gongyang Zhuan (a classic book of ancient Chinese history) and spent a great amount of effort writing poems as well as local chronicles. A book covering Wang’s classics studies and poems was published as “Xiang Qi Lou Quan Ji.”
