Taibao, known as Yeting (courtesy name) and Mei’an (pseudonym), came from the family of Manchu Plain Yellow Banner. The last name of his ancestors was “Gioro” but later was changed to Donggo Hala. In 1777, Taibao served as an imperial scholar and began his fifty-year official career. Taibao was interested in literature and excelled at calligraphy. He and other calligraphers, Yong Liu and Fanggang Weng, were recognized as the three most important calligraphers in the mid-Qing dynasty.
