Rangzhi Wu, known as Xizai (courtesy name) and Wan-hsüeh-chü-shih or Fang-chu-chang-jen (pseudonyms) was born in Jiangsu, China. Wu was a renowned calligrapher and artist in seal cutting in Qing dynasty. He followed the style of Shiru Deng’s seal cutting (Shiru Deng, a Chinese calligrapher and sealing cutting expert, 1644-1912). By integrating it with his own style, Wu created a distinct form, known as “Deng Group” and became a central figure in the art of seal cutting.
