Main Text	To identify some ancient variant forms of Chinese characters is more difficult than to recognize ancient artifacts. It has been extremely challenging to find a person with this type of unique knowledge throughout history. Few examples are: Si Li (ca. 280 BC- 208 BC), who could recognize the words engraved on jade found in tombs created in Chou dynasty (1046–256 BC). Kang Xi (223-262), who could read the god books stored in Baodu Mountain. Xi Shu (?-300), who could study Chou shu (books regarding history of Chou dynasty found in a tomb at the Ji county). Yan Jiang (444-505), who knew the meaning of ancient characters on jade mirrors and bamboo slips. Xian Liu (481-543), who could distinguish relief characters on the ancient artifacts of the State of Wei (403 BCE-225BCE). Senggian Wang (426-485), who was able to read the bamboo slips written in tadpole scripts and found the missing parts of Rites of Zhou. Yun Fan (451-503), who could recognize bronze inscriptions on the artifacts made in Qin dynasty (221BC-206BC). Yu Han (?), who decoded mysterious scripts left by a river dragon after it had been killed by thunder. Xie Li (?), who understood the characters engraved on the stele located at the boundary between Zhangzhou and Quanzhou. Sheng Li (?), who understood the ancient articles left on stone walls. Sheng Lu in Yanzhou City can recognize seal scripts on the ancient bronze pots. Chang Zhang (?), who could distinguish the bronze inscriptions on the ancient dings (tripodal cauldrons) found in the Mei Yang areas. You Kao (?), who could read the seal script used throughout Pre-Han dynasty scripts on seals made in jade (Han dynasty, 206 BCE-220 AD).
釋文	古文奇字難辨有甚於事物者，李斯識周冢玉文八字，嵇康抱犢山中神書，束皙識汲冢周書，江淹識玉鏡竹簡古文，劉顯識魏人遺梁古器隱起文，王僧虔識科斗書周官闕文，范[漏一雲字]識秦望銘，韓愈識泉州石銘里誅鮫雷文，李協識漳泉界銘，東平李生[漏一識字]石壁遺記，兗州魯生識古銅盎篆文，張獻[敞之誤]識美陽鼎文，高佑識玉印文。蓋博極之士自古已難見矣。
