The
last
name
of
Xuan
Bao’s
wife
was
Huan
. She was also
known
as
Shaojun
.
Xuan
Bao
was a
student
of
Shaojun’s
father
. He was
amazed
how
Bao
could
live
in
poverty
without
complains
and
decided
to
marry
his
daughter
to
Bao
. He
gave
his
daughter
a
large
dowry
,
which
upset
Bao
.
When
Shaojun
found
out
this, she
said
:
“Since
I
married
you
,
I
should
obey
you.”
Shaojun
then
changed
her
dress
and
wore
coarse
garments
. They
pulled
a
deer
wagon
and
went
back
to
Bao’s
home
village
.
After
they
bowed
and
thanked
the
elders
in his
family
, she
went
outside
and
pulled
some
water
in a
pot
–
taking
responsibility
of
being
a
new
daughter
in
law
.
Liang’s
family
lived
in
one
big
family
hut
,
Gao’s
house
. He
made
a
living
by
helping
people
pestle
rice
.
When
Liang
went
home
every
time
, a
meal
was
prepared
by his
wife
,
Mengquang
. She was
afraid
of
looking
at
Liang
. To
serve
food
, she
lowered
her
head
and
kept
the
meal
tray
on the
same
level
with her
eyebrows
.
Yangzi
Yue
desired
to
broaden
his
knowledge
so
he
traveled
to
very
far
places
to
learn
from
different
scholars
.
After
one
year
, he
went
home
, his
wife
kneeled
down,..and
asked
the
reason
for his
return
.
Yangzi
said
:
“I
have
traveled
for a
long
time
and
I
miss
everyone.
" His
wife
then
walked
to a
loom
and
said
:
“Cloth
is
made
from
silkworm
cocoons
. A
cun
(an
ancient
unit
of
length)
of
clothing
is
accumulated
by
several
lines
of
silk
manufactured
on the
machine
. A
zhang
(an
ancient
unit
of
length)
or a
bolt
of
cloth
is
accumulated
by
countless
cuns
. If
I
cut
these
unfinished
silk
products
, the
part
that has
become
cloth
will be
actually
useless
;
I
will
totally
waste
my
time
.
You
want
to
become
a
knowledgeable
scholar
but
you
gave
up
halfway
. What
is
the
difference
between
the
results
of
your
behavior
and
cutting
this
incomplete
cloth
in
half
?
“Yangzi
was
moved
by her
words
and
returned
to
finish
his
study
. He
never
went
home
for
seven
years
after
that
visit
and
finally
became
a
renowned
scholar
;
When
Yinzhi
Wu
served
as a
taishou
(a
government
position
in
ancient
China
,
similar
to a
satrap)
, his
wife
still
carried
firewood
on her
back
by
herself
.
Everyone
applauded
her for her
honesty
and
integrity
.
釋文
鮑宣妻桓氏字少君。宣從桓氏父學,奇其清苦,以女妻之,資送甚盛。宣不悅,妻曰:「既奉承君子,惟命是聽。」乃衣短布裳,與宣共挽鹿車歸。拜姑禮畢,提甕出汲,脩行婦道
