'In the middle, towering up as far as the topmost roof, was the great Buddha, said to be over seventy-two feet high. It was of wood, glittering with gold and colours.' (Jehol: city of emperors). The city of Jehol is now known as Chengde and in 1956, Jehol province became part of Hebei province.
